Carnauba wax, also known as "queen of waxes," is a natural wax obtained from the leaves of the carnauba palm tree, scientifically known as Copernicia prunifera. Native to northeastern Brazil, this palm tree secretes the wax to protect its leaves from the harsh tropical climate. Carnauba wax is widely renowned for its exceptional hardness, gloss, and durability, making it a valuable ingredient in various industries.
In its raw form, carnauba wax appears as hard, yellow-brown flakes or granules with a faint, pleasant odor reminiscent of beeswax. It has a high melting point, typically between 82°C to 86°C (180°F to 187°F), making it ideal for use in products that require resistance to heat.
Carnauba wax boasts a diverse range of applications across industries. In the cosmetic and personal care sector, it is valued for its ability to provide a glossy finish and excellent water resistance in products such as lipsticks, lip balms, mascaras, and hair waxes. Its hypoallergenic properties make it suitable for sensitive skin formulations.
