Appearance: Crystal clear, colorless, gelatinous solid.
Texture: Rubber-like, elastic, and soft.
Odor: Odorless (unless fragranced).
Melting Point: 75°C – 85°C (167°F – 185°F).
Note: This is significantly higher than paraffin wax (~54°C).
Flash Point: >170°C (>338°F).
Warning: While the flash point is high, gel wax can smoke at lower temperatures if overheated.
Density (Specific Gravity): Approx. 0.86 – 0.92 g/cm³.
Burn Time: burns 2x to 3x longer than paraffin wax of the same volume.
1. Prepare the Container
Wash and thoroughly dry your glass container. Any water residue will repel the gel and create cloudiness.
Attach the wick to the bottom center using a glue dot or a dab of hot glue.
Pro Tip: Preheat your glass container to approx. 65°C – 70°C (150°F) using a heat gun or oven. Pouring hot gel into cold glass causes "jump lines" and trapped bubbles.
2. Melting the Gel
Cut the gel into small cubes for even melting.
Heat the gel in a pot over medium heat.
Target Temperature: Bring the gel to 95°C – 105°C (200°F – 220°F).
Note: It will look thick like syrup. Do not let it exceed 110°C or it will scorch and turn yellow.
Stirring: Stir slowly and gently. Fast stirring whips air into the gel, creating bubbles that are very hard to remove.
3. Adding Scent & Color
Add liquid dye first. Use a toothpick to add tiny amounts—you want to keep it transparent!
Add your non-polar fragrance. Stir gently for 2 minutes to ensure it binds with the oil.
4. Embedding Objects (Optional)
If you want to add shells, glass stones, or non-flammable items:
Dip the object into the hot gel first to coat it.
Place it into the container. (The coating helps prevent air bubbles from sticking to the object).
Safety: Ensure objects are placed away from the wick so they don't interfere with the flame.
5. The Pour
Pour the gel slowly down the side of the pre-heated glass.
Do not pour directly into the center; this creates turbulence and bubbles.
Fill to your desired level, leaving space at the top.
6. De-Bubbling (The Finishing Touch)
Let the candle settle. You will likely see some bubbles.
To remove bubbles: Place the finished candle on a baking sheet in the oven at a low temperature (~80°C) for 15–20 minutes. The heat will help bubbles rise to the surface and pop. Alternatively, use a heat gun on the surface.
