Para Amino Phenol (PAP), chemically known as 4-Aminophenol, is one of the most widely used oxidative hair dye intermediates in the professional and consumer cosmetics industry. As a primary coupler and developer base, it plays a central role in achieving a broad spectrum of hair colour shades — from warm browns and rich blacks to vibrant fashion tones.
Role in Hair Dyeing When combined with an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide, PAP undergoes oxidative coupling with dye couplers to form large, stable colour molecules that penetrate deep into the hair cortex. This results in long-lasting, fade-resistant colour that withstands repeated washing. Its excellent compatibility with p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) and other dye intermediates makes it a cornerstone ingredient in permanent and semi-permanent hair colour formulations.
⚠️ Note: Para Amino Phenol is a regulated cosmetic ingredient. Formulations must comply with applicable regulations including EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009, CDSCO guidelines in India, and relevant BIS standards. Always include appropriate patch test instructions on finished product labelling.
